Trades from throughout Northwest Ohio gathered together on Oct. 16 at UA Local 50 to sign a historic safety agreement covering the Oregon Clean Energy plant being constructed in Oregon, Ohio.
Representatives from Black & Veatch, the project’s general contractor, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OHSA), and the Northwest Ohio Building Trades were on hand to pledge their commitment to safety.
The agreement will give OHSA the ability to regularly inspect the construction site, helping to ensure the safety of the workers.
Just before signing the agreement, OHSA Area Director Kim Nelson said she was thoroughly impressed with the safety accord and everyone’s commitment to safety when constructing this large facility.
In particular, she noted the emphasis to track injury near misses, the strict following of the six-foot fall rule, and the overall goal to reduce worksite injuries.
Nelson said everyone has one common objective on this project – to provide a safe and healthy working environment for all workers who build the facility.
The Piping Industry is committed to the safety of all its members. As the trade with the most members on site constructing the 800 megawatts, natural gas-fired power plant, the Piping Industry strives to train its members to stay safe on the worksite. This dedication begins with apprentices and remains through continued journeymen training.
