Members Work in Confined Spaces to Renovate Wood Haven

While patients, doctors and staff at Wood Haven Health Care Senior Living & Rehabilitation may not see the work being done, members of the Northwest Ohio Piping Industry are busy updating the facility’s piping and HVAC infrastructure.

For several months, Bayes Inc., the general contractor, has been on the job replacing all the sanitary sewer lines, HVAC units, and the HVAC lines throughout the complex. Overall, this project is expected to take eight months to complete at a cost of $1.2 million.

Wood County Officials Visit Piping Industry Training Center

Next year, Toledo will be a hotbed of action centered largely on major construction projects.  To get a clearer idea of what it takes to become tradesmen and tradeswomen to work on these and other projects, a number of local government officials toured the Piping Industry Training Center last week.

Members of the Department of Ohio Jobs and Family Services of Wood County, the Wood County Economic Development Department and Wood County Commissioners and their staff toured the PITC. The officials spoke with representatives from the Piping Industry and learned what it takes to make a skilled professional.

Lt. Governor Taylor "Very Impressed" with Piping Industry Tour

In September, the Piping Industry was honored to welcome Ohio Lt. Governor Mary Taylor and Doris Herringshaw, vice president of the Wood County Board of Commissioners, for a tour of our state-of-the-art, 45,000 sq. ft. Training Center. 

The Piping Industry Training Center houses the classrooms and skills labs for apprentices to hone their plumbing, steamfitting, HVAC, and welding techniques. This, in combination with on-the-job training under the tutelage of a journeyman in their chosen trade, comprises the industry-funded education apprentices receive to become part of the best trained workforce in Northwest Ohio.

Training Center deemed 'incredible' by Wood County Commissioner candidate

"An incredible asset" is how Wood County Commissioner candidate, and longtime skilled trades advocate, Andy Newlove described the Piping Industry Training Center after his recent tour of our state-of-the-art facility. 

Newlove visited the PITC to get a better understanding of the worldclass training and services the Piping Industry and MCA (Mechanical Contractors Association) brings to our apprentices, customers and community.

"The hard work and dedication of your membership have always impressed me," said Newlove. "Touring this facility further supported my strong feeling that keeping jobs local and promoting skilled trades in our area is what will continue to make Wood County and Northwest Ohio a great place to live and work."

Wood County commissioner tours training center

Add the name of Wood County Commissioner Doris I. Herringshaw to the list of elected officials who have toured the Piping Industry Training Center and walked away highly impressed.

Herringshaw visited the training center recently and after her tour talked about the important role the training center plays in boosting the local economy.
