Work progresses at Northwood School

Construction workers are making significant progress on the $33 million Northwood School project.

The combined school, which will be home to all students in the district – kindergarten through 12th grade – is on schedule as crews work to finish the roof, closing off the 136,000 square foot structure from the elements.

During the summer, Northwest Ohio Piping Industry members were busy installing all underground sewer and water lines.

Piping Industry Members Building Defiance School

Northwest Ohio Piping Industry members are busy working on a $60 million school project in Defiance.

In 2014, Defiance voters passed of a 3.78-mill, $11.7 million bond issue to construct a new combined Defiance Senior and Junior High School.

After months of planning, site preparation began in early 2016, and by mid-April, Piping Industry members were working to install the underground piping.

Throughout the summer, the building has taken shape and now crews are working to enclose the structure before winter sets in.

Piping Industry’s Jared Dusseau Wins International Apprentice Contest

A Northwest Ohio Piping Industry member proved he is the best pipefitter apprentice in the world by winning the UA International Apprenticeship Pipefitter Contest.

Following up on wins at the State and Regional levels, Jared Dusseau, a 34-yearold from Oak Harbor, bested the competition in contests designed to assess knowledge and skill level found on the jobsite. He earned the highest combined overall score amongst his fellow competitors and is now the 2016 UA International Pipefitting Apprentice Champion.

His victory marked the fifth time a Piping Industry apprentice has won the International title.

“I just wanted to keep building [off each win], representing my Brothers and Sisters and all our apprentices,” said Dusseau of his victory.

Piping Industry Members Play Large Role In BP Husky’s Biggest Shutdown in 40 Years

Pipefitters and Welders from the Northwest Ohio Piping Industry are playing a huge role in the biggest shutdown at the BP Husky Oil Refinery in 40 years.

Over 1,000 piping journeymen are spending more than two months working to replace valves, pumps, pipes, caps and other items necessary for the oil refinement process.

Shutdowns happen every three to five years at the refinery located in Oregon, Ohio, and generally occur for maintenance, safety, or processing purposes. This time around, the shutdown deals with more than just maintenance and safety. Portions of the extensive work will also add more efficient equipment to the process, which in turn, will help the plant save money and decrease production time.
