It is never easy to go on stage and give a musical or theatrical performance.

Members of the Northwest Ohio Piping Industry teamed up with other area building trades members and Feet on the Street, a non-profit organization affiliated with the Toledo Police Department to help two children recover from a horrific, life-changing situation.
The Toledo community was shocked to learn about a murder-suicide in August 2016, which took the life of one of Toledo's emergency dispatchers and left three children without their birthparents.

Piping Industry members took care of one of their own, as they raised $15,000 to help fight pediatric cancer.
Elijah Morrissey, the 3-year old son of Piping Industry member Tim Morrissey, was diagnosed with Stage 4 high-risk neuroblastoma in September and since that time, Elijah has been in and out of the hospital fighting for his life.
In January, Elijah and his parents will travel to New York City, where he will be under the care of specialists at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, one of the nation’s leading pediatric cancer treatment centers, for his latest round of treatments.

When deep funding cuts to Community Development Block Grants shuttered the kitchen at Toledo’s largest family homeless shelter, the community lost a valuable resource. Today, thanks in part to the Northwest Ohio Piping Industry, Family House has a new kitchen and shelter residents no longer have to wonder where they will get their next meal.
With the capability to house 107 community members, Family House is Ohio’s second largest homeless shelter. Not being able to serve meals to residents presented a heartbreaking challenge to the shelter’s leadership. Without a kitchen, families only had access to a bin for refrigerated food and a locker for dry goods.
Family House plays an integral role in ensuring the health of Toledo’s homeless community by providing many families with their only source of nutritious food. Located in an area of Toledo called a food desert, a spot where healthy, affordable food is difficult to obtain, most families at the shelter were forced to walk long distances to the nearest carryout for groceries, usually with young children in tow.

For the second year in a row, the Northwest Ohio Piping Industry stepped up to the plate to help give Toledo residents a way to stay cool this summer.
When the Toledo city budget did not include any money to operate city pools this year, it was up to community leaders to find a way to keep these facilities open during the sweltering summer months. Thanks to donations from the Piping Industry and Northwest Ohio Building Trades, along with several local companies, six city pools will open on June 27: Willys, Roosevelt, Navarre, Pickford, Wilson and Jamie Farr.
Donations came from ProMedica, which contributed $150,000; the Northwest Ohio Building Trades, $90,000; The Andersons, $75,000; Fifth Third Bank, $10,000; and Spartan Logistics, $5,000, Toledo Mayor Paula Hicks-Hudson reported during a news conference at Willys Pool on Wednesday.

The holidays are rapidly approaching and bringing with them some inevitabilities across Northwest Ohio, like that the malls will be filled to capacity, and we will be complaining about weather for at least the next four months.
But one thing that is far less certain for many children in the area is not whether or not they will receive everything on their list, but if they will receive any presents at all. This is why the Northwest Ohio Piping Industry was proud to do our part in helping to alleviate these concerns this holiday season.

The membership-based canine playground uses 4.4 acres of city-owned property in Woodsdale Park and will be operated by Toledo Unleashed, an area nonprofit whose mission is “to foster and promote off-leash opportunities for dogs in the greater Toledo area.”
City Councilman Matt Cherry, who serves on the board of Toledo Unleashed, helped coordinate the supplies and labor volunteered by the Piping Industry and other local trades to help make this long-discussed project a reality.

Members of the Piping Industry received accolades June 17 from Toledo city officials for the critical role they played in getting Wilson Pool in North Toledo ready for use this summer.
Funding shortages had threatened to keep the city pool closed, but members of the Piping Industry and other Northwest Ohio Building Trades volunteered their services and helped obtain needed equipment and materials to get the pool ready for use this summer.
Toledo City Council President Paula Hicks-Hudson held a news conference June 17 to celebrate the completion of the repairs at Wilson Pool. At the same event, Toledo Mayor D. Michael Collins said the work to renovate the pool was completed at only 25 percent of the originally estimated cost, thanks to the volunteer effort by city's building trades.

The night of fun and dancing also served another important purpose – raising more than $40,000 to help pay for clinical drug trials and research to find a cure for the rare disease Progeria.
The fundraiser’s main attraction was Carly Kudzia, who has the rare, fatal genetic disease that causes her to age rapidly, roughly at a rate of about eight to 10 years for every calendar year. There are barely 100 children known to be living with Progeria in the world and their average life expectancy is about 13 years.
