The Northwest Ohio Piping Industry’s jurisdiction is a hotbed for construction jobs.

An April report released by the Associated General Contractors of America (AGC) showed Monroe, Mich., and Toledo both ranked in the top 12 of the largest percentage of gains in construction jobs in the nation during the month of Feb.

Monroe led the nation with 1,200 jobs gained over the same month last year, which is a 60 percent increase.

Toledo saw construction jobs increase from 10,600 in Feb. 2015 to 12,200 in Feb. 2016, for a 1,600 job gain. The 15 percent growth in jobs tied Toledo at 12th in the nation with Anaheim-Santa Ana-Irvine, Calif., and Wausau, Wisc.

The only Ohio area to top Toledo was Steubenville, Ohio-Weirton W.Va. area, which saw a 29 percent increase.

Columbus saw a 12 percent rise in construction jobs, placing 26th in the nation and third in the state, according to the AGC.

February’s numbers represent a small increase over what is expected to be a busy year for the Northwest Ohio Piping Industry. A number of major projects are in the early stages including work at an energy facility, oil refinery shutdown, and a large-scale downtown renovation for one of Toledo’s largest employers.

Hundreds of traveling workers are expected in the Greater Toledo area to help on these projects and a number of medium and smaller-sized projects. These highly trained, highly skilled craftsmen will help Piping Industry members complete these jobs on time and on budget.

Northwest Ohio Piping Industry journeymen, especially pressure pipe welders and HVACR service technicians, are currently in high demand.
